Swamp Dragon by Jedi-Art-Trick Swamp Dragon by Jedi-Art-Trick
I'm tired of the current dinosaurs-with-wings dragons...I think we need to be more creative with designing them. This one can't fly, but he can do the fire-breathing thing. He's based off of the alligator snapping turtle, which is IMO the baddest looking reptile on the planet. They have SPIKES on their shells, like Bowser for crying out loud.

I dunno, this picture has been in my head for a while, so I painted it with Painter.

Your artwork is amazing!!! Since kid I always loved Swamps and creatures living on them. Good idea using a Snapping Turtle as basis for the design of this dragon, I heard many years ago that snapping turtles use their tongue to attract their preys; and this dragon has a glowing tongue that looks like fire, like using it to attract preys. LOL, it would be an example of the phrase: ''Don't walk to the light!'' XD.

Nice Job!!!

THanks! Snapping turtles look terrifying to me for some reason, so I had to make something like this.

Oh man, this is such a cool idea...and the execution is exquisite.  I love the mood you've created here.

I saw some snapping turtles wild by my apartment over the weekend, and they're really awe-inspiring.  I can't even imagine running into this guy!

I'm not sure I'd call it a dragon but thats where it is great others think more outside the box, love the tongue, to me it shows so much observation off of an alligator snapping turtle while still showing a great creative spark

Yeah, I kinda wanted to rethink what a dragon could be- I got the idea while looking at those monster-sized snappers at the zoo. I think they're pretty scary looking.

I love those fantasy animal books that show dragons and other mythical creatures and right when I saw this I thought it would fit into one of those fantasy worlds, your setting really helps with that

Good call- that's exactly where the idea came from. Been watching animal planet late night for ideas, lol.

I love Animal Planet.
I play a little game with it sometimes. I'll watch a show on another channel and during the commercials I'll flip back to Animal Planet, sketch as much as I can of the first animal I see. Then I'll flip back to the first channel until the next commercial break. Then I'll flip back to Animal Planet and start drawing the next animal I see from where I left off on the first one. So in the end I've got a weird hybrid thing. If that makes any sense.

I worked on this over several shorter sittings (not my preference) so I am unsure exactly how long...probably somewhere around 6 or 7 hours. It also speeds things up to have a piece planned out ahead of time, where with this I kept adding stuff that I thought would look cool over and over.
